the wishes of the mind are fulfilled

Madhepura. Normally when you visit any Hindu religious place, you will find the temple and its priests there. But, Lokeshwari Devi located in Belo-Chamgarh village of Madhepura district of Bihar is the place where there is neither a temple nor a priest. The faith towards this place is so deep that whoever comes here, whether Hindu or Muslim, does not return empty-handed. The then Chandragarh of Belo Panchayat is currently the place of Lokeshwari Devi Mai in Bahiyar near Chamgarh Chowk. People from the Terai region of the neighboring country Nepal along with many nearby districts also reach here with vows. Devotees make offerings here after their wishes are fulfilled.

Local people say that this tradition is going on from generation to generation. The history of this place is very ancient. But, ever since we regained our senses, we are seeing worship happening here like this only. However, now slowly the form of this temple is changing. A huge crowd of devotees gather here every Tuesday.

Some elders and head of the panchayat, Dayanand Yadav, tell that there is a huge banyan tree here. People worship under it. They say that the ancestors had tried to get the temple built here, but were not successful. It is believed that Lokeshwari Devi is sitting on a banyan tree, so the construction of the temple is not possible here.

Hindu-Muslim all ask for vow

After the fulfillment of the vow at the place of Lokeshwari Devi, one can see the influx of those who make offerings. Along with this, a unique scene of communal harmony is also seen here. Generally, Muslims are not seen at the place of any Hindu deity, but people who follow Muslim religion also come here with devotion.

Elderly Mohd. Ismail tells that he has also done penance here. An offering of sugar is made during the puja. Here every Tuesday there is a beragan. Together with the administration, a group of local youths has been formed, who take care here. A Dharamshala has also been built by the committee for the devotees coming from outside.
