Sania’s success fills every Indian’s heart with pride

New Delhi. Congratulating India’s famous tennis player Sania Mirza for her illustrious career, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that in her excellence the world saw a glimpse of India’s sporting talent. Sania, who has won six Grand Slam titles in her career, retired from tennis last month after playing her last international tournament in Dubai.

In a congratulatory message to Sania Mirza, Prime Minister Modi said that Sania has left an indelible mark on Indian sports, which will continue to inspire generations of sportspersons. Sania, who was ranked number one in the world in doubles, posted this congratulatory message on her Twitter handle on March 9.

‘The world saw a glimpse of India’s sporting prowess in your excellence’
In this congratulatory message, Prime Minister Modi wrote, ‘It will be difficult for tennis lovers to understand that from now on you will not play as a professional player. In your excellence the world saw a glimpse of India’s sporting prowess. The tennis scenario in India was very different when you started playing. What you did was to show that more women can come into the game of tennis and excel in it.

PM Modi wrote, ‘But apart from this, your success also gave strength to many other women who wanted to pursue a career in sports, but were hesitating to do so for one reason or the other.’

‘Sania’s success fills every Indian’s heart with pride’
PM Modi wrote that Sania’s success filled the heart of every Indian with pride. He wrote, ‘When you announced the ‘Life Update’ on January 13, you brilliantly expressed your journey from a six-year-old who literally had to play on the tennis court to become a world-class tennis player in the years ahead. Had to struggle.

The Prime Minister also wrote, ‘You wrote how winning a medal for India has been the biggest honor for you. I can say that you are the pride of India, whose success has filled the heart and mind of every Indian with immense joy.

The Prime Minister also recalled the time when Sania had gone through a tough phase when a wrist injury almost jeopardized her career but emerged as a strong doubles player. PM Modi hoped that Sania would continue to guide young sporting talents. Sania was recently appointed mentor of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) team Royal Challengers Bangalore.

While thanking the Prime Minister, Sania Mirza said, ‘I want to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for such inspiring words. I have always taken great pride in representing my country to the best of my ability and will continue to do whatever I can to make India proud. Thank you for your support.
