Vervet monkeys are being eradicated from Caribbean countries

New Delhi. If a monkey or a group of monkeys causes a lot of damage, should the whole country’s monkeys be punished for it? Can a country order the extermination of an entire population of nuisance monkeys? A similar decision is being taken in the Caribbean country of Sint Maarten. The Guardian has reported that Vervet has given permission to exterminate the entire population of monkeys. In fact, the people of this country have described this monkey as a nuisance and dangerous monkey.

However, after this order, many environmental and animal lovers of the world have demanded to change this order. Animal lovers have said that instead of killing monkeys, sterilization and neutering methods can also be tried. According to reports, an NGO in Sint Maarten has been selected by the government for this work and has been assigned the task of catching all the monkeys and killing them. 3 years time has been given for this work.

Vervet monkeys are not native to the Caribbean, but were introduced from South Africa
Lesky Hickerson, manager of the Nature Foundation, said that when a species is increasing its population in such an area, even though it is not a native species of that area, it should be protected. This vervet monkey is also not of Caribbean origin. Here its population can be controlled so that the coming generations will have this animal available to see. Monkeys of this species were brought to the Caribbean country in the 17th century. This vervet monkey has a brown-brown body with brown spots and a black face with white fur. Animal lover and founder of the Vervet Monkey Foundation in South Africa, Dave Du Tit, said that extermination of any species is not a good decision. I do not agree with the decision to kill vervet monkeys. You can sterilize some of these monkeys to solve the problem.
