Washington: The Pentagon said on Friday that a senior al-Qaeda commander has been killed in a US drone strike in Syria. “A US airstrike today killed senior al-Qaeda leader Abdul Hamid al-Matar in northwestern Syria,” Central Command spokesman Major John Rigsby said in a statement
The attack comes two days after an attack on a US post in southern Syria. Rigsby, however, did not say whether the US drone strike was in retaliation.
“A US airstrike today killed senior al-Qaeda leader Abdul Hamid al-Matar in northwestern Syria,” Rigsby said. MQ-9 aircraft were used for this. The attack killed a civilian. Hasn’t gone.” According to the statement, al-Qaeda continues to be a threat to the United States and its allies.
He said, “Al-Qaeda uses Syria as a safe haven for reconstruction, coordinating with external allies, and planning external operations. Al-Qaeda threatens Syria reaching Syria, Iraq and beyond. Also uses as a basis for.”
The statement said the US will continue to target members of al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations that seek to harm the American homeland.
