People gathered on the streets against love jihad in Nashik

Nashik. A large number of people have demonstrated today against Love Jihad in Nashik, Maharashtra. This protest was organized on behalf of Sakal Hindu Samaj. Crowds thronged the streets in this silent march taken out in Nashik city. Thousands of people participated in this silent march along with sages and saints. The people involved in this march demanded death sentence for Aftab Poonawalla, accused of murdering Shraddha Walkar.

The people involved in the silent march of Nashik said that an anti-love jihad law should be made. During the protest, a demand was raised that the law to stop religious conversion should be strictly implemented in every state of the country including Maharashtra. It is noteworthy that recently a case of alleged ‘love jihad’ had come to the fore in Malegaon, Maharashtra. A 14-year-old minor girl from a tribal community was abducted on 24 October. The next day the girl’s mother lodged a complaint with the police about her daughter’s kidnapping. Police had arrested Imran Sheikh from Surat for abducting a minor girl from Malegaon and forcibly marrying her.

The police was successful in rescuing the victim after about 18 days. Describing it as a form of ‘love jihad’ even at that time, Hindutva organizations in a press conference demanded strict action against all those who helped the suspect. Along with recovering the victim girl, the police had detained the suspect Imran Shaikh from Surat. Nevertheless, the Hinduist organizations alleged that the functioning of the police in this whole case was questionable. These people demanded that strict action should be taken against relatives, Qazis and witch-workers who helped Imran, the suspect in the case.
