London. Indian-origin Rishi Sunak, who is set to become Britain’s prime minister, on Monday promised to prioritize “stability and unity”. Sunak said that he would ‘work day and night for the people of Britain’.

Rishi Sunak will replace Liz Truss. Former Chancellor Sunak, who won the Tory leadership race on Monday, is set to enter 10 Downing Street after meeting King Charles III at Buckingham Palace. This meeting is likely to take place on Tuesday. 10 Downing Street is the residence-cum-office of the Prime Minister of Britain.

Besides becoming the first prime minister of Indian origin, 42-year-old Sunak will be the youngest prime minister of the country in nearly 200 years. Soon after the results of the Tory party’s race for leadership were announced, Sunak said his priority would be to unite the country. He said that this country has given him a lot and he is honored to have got the biggest fortune of his life to repay it.

“The UK is a great country, but there is no doubt that we face a serious economic challenge,” Sunak said at the Conservative Party headquarters near Parliament in London. And I will give top priority to keeping my party and country united, as this is the only way through which we can overcome the challenges and create a better and more prosperous future for our children and grandchildren.
Sunak said, ‘I promise that I will serve you with integrity and humility and will continue to serve the people of Britain.’

Sunak, 42, a former finance minister, had the support of more than half of the Conservative Party’s 357 MPs, while he needed at least 100 MPs to win. Sir Graham Brady, head of the influential Committee of Parliamentarians in 1922, announced in Parliament premises at 2 p.m. local time on the last day of his withdrawal that he had received only one nomination, so Sunak had won the race to become leader.
