Rahim, one of the sons of Maher, who remembers his mother day and night. Actually, Rahim’s mother and his brother are admitted in a hospital, because the family was so compelled due to drought that the grass was also consumed to consider food and that is why Maher’s wife and his elder son are ill. The doctor said that his wife’s intestine has been damaged. The family is wishing for his health every day.
Rahim is watching his sister cooking. The family has got help, so now two times food is easily prepared. In the last six months, the funds of the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) have given money to about 1.25 lakh people to meet their needs, giving them freedom to buy food, medicines or fuels. Maher told that at present we have the material to make bread.
Drought has contributed to the increase in food prices across the country, but it is only part of the problem. Afghanistan has always been very dependent on imported grains and vegetable oil. World food prices have risen due to war in Ukraine, which has led to a rapid rise in imported wheat prices.
These are Farhana, who have two children. They say that in the last one years, there has been a huge jump in the prices of flour and other foods. He said that last year, the 10-liter barrel of vegetable oil was worth 797 rupees i.e. 10 dollars but now it is worth 1,754 rupees i.e. it has increased to 22 dollars.
She is Farhan’s youngest daughter Husna. The family is dependent on cash assistance distributed through local donations. Farhana says that since getting cash, I have been able to provide good clothes and food to my children so that they can move forward. I hope that the food we buy can give them enough energy to live a successful life.
These are Ali, who works as a laborer. Due to the food crisis, people have also given up work, unemployment rate has also increased rapidly. Ali is able to earn only 100-150 rupees of the day and the day he is unable to go to work, his children remain hungry.
Education of millions of children has been affected throughout Afghanistan, including 17-year-old Mohammed’s younger siblings. Mohammed’s father died of cancer last year, Mohammed has the responsibility of his mother and eight brothers and sisters. The amount of money he earns throughout the day is not enough for food, so it is difficult to study school.
