Mumbai. In Maharashtra’s Nandurbar, a tribal community man kept his daughter’s body in a salt pit for 44 days to preserve it, so that he could get her second postmortem done. An official has given this information. The father has alleged that he was raped before his daughter’s death and demanded that a second postmortem be conducted on his daughter’s body so that the truth could be ascertained.
The body of a 21-year-old woman from Nandurbar district was brought to the Government JJ Hospital in Mumbai on Thursday, an official said. “A committee of specialist doctors is being formed and the postmortem will probably be done on Friday,” he said, adding that the process would be videographed. Police officials said that the body of the woman was found hanging at Wavi in Dhadgaon in Nandurbar on August 1. He told that the woman’s father has alleged that his daughter was raped by four men.
Questions raised on police investigation
After the death of the woman, the postmortem of the body was done at a government hospital in Nandurbar and a case of suicide was registered after the postmortem report did not reveal any conspiracy, the police officer said. He said that three people were arrested in this case. The family members, including the woman’s father, alleged that the police did not investigate the matter properly and hence they decided to preserve the body instead of performing the last rites, the official said.
The officer said this thing
He told that the family buried the body in a pit filled with salt in their village in Dhadgaon Nagar, as they wanted to get the second postmortem done so that the truth of the woman’s death could be known. “The body was kept in a salt pit for several weeks, after which the authorities agreed to conduct another postmortem in Mumbai. Hence the body was brought to JJ Hospital on Thursday afternoon for postmortem.”
