China said Jaishankar’s remarks reflect India’s ‘tradition of freedom’

Beijing: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met his Indian counterpart S. Jaishankar’s remarks in which he rejected European supremacism and said China-India were “fully capable” of repairing their ties. Wang Yi says that Jaishankar’s remarks reflect India’s “tradition of freedom”.

In his first meeting with Indian Ambassador to China Pradeep Kumar Rawat on Wednesday, Wang said the two countries should make efforts in the same direction to maintain the warmth of their relations, bring them back on track and restore them to the same status.

In comments posted on the website of the Ministry of External Affairs, he said the two sides should work together to meet various global challenges and protect the common interests of China, India and various developing countries.

Wang told Rawat, “Recently, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar publicly objected to the denial of European supremacism and interference by external forces in China-India relations. It shows India’s tradition of independence.”

In an interactive session at a conference in Slovakian capital Bratislava on June 3, Jaishankar had said that Europe needs to break out of the mindset that its problems are the world’s problems, but the world’s problems are not Europe’s problems.

Jaishankar had rejected Europe’s view that India’s stand on the Ukraine attack could affect the global cooperation it (India) gets in case of a problem with China. Jaishankar had said that India has a difficult relationship with China, but it is “fully capable” of repairing it.

Wang told Rawat that China and India are two great ancient Eastern civilizations, two major emerging developing countries and two major neighbours.
