What happens to our body when we touch someone?

New Delhi. The Nobel Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in the world, was announced on Monday. This time American scientists David Julius and Ardame Patapoutian were jointly given this prize in physiology or medicine for discovering receptors for temperature and touch.

Last year, this award was given to three scientists in medicine. He discovered the hepatitis C virus that damages the liver. This was such a success, due to which it was easy to treat this deadly disease and tests were done to prevent the spread of this disease through blood banks.

Julian Zierth, a member of the Nobel Assembly and Professor of Physiology, said, “Alfred Nobel was very clear about his decision when he included physiology or medicine in the list of Nobel Prizes. He specifically said that he is looking for a discovery that has benefited mankind.’

David Julius earned his PhD from the University of California in 1984 and is currently a professor at the University of California. On the other hand, Ardem Patpoutian earned his PhD in 1996 from the California Institute of Technology. Since 2000, he has been working at Scripps Research, La Jolla, California. These two scientists explained in detail how our body transmits the signals of heat, cold, touch and pressure to our nervous system.

The winner of the Nobel Prize receives a gold medal with a prize money of 10 million Swedish kronor. The worth of these Swedish kronor in Indian currency is around Rs 8.50 crore. The prize money comes from the bequest of its creator and Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel, who died in 1895. Apart from medicine, the Nobel Prize is also given for better work in the fields of physics, chemistry, literature, peace and economics. The awards for these areas will also be announced in the coming week.
