Delhi: The Supreme Court will pronounce its verdict on Friday on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’ (Kejriwal ) s petition challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in the money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam in Delhi. According to the list of July 12 uploaded on the website of the apex court, a bench headed by Justice Sanjiv Khanna will pronounce the verdict. The bench had reserved its verdict on Kejriwal’s petition on May 17. The bench also comprises Justice Dipankar Dutta.
On April 15, the apex court had sought a response from the ED on Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest in the money laundering case. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener had challenged the April 9 order of the Delhi High Court in the apex court. The Delhi High Court had upheld Kejriwal’s arrest in the case, saying there was no illegality in it and the ED had no option left after his repeated refusal to join the investigation.
Kejriwal was arrested on March 21
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in a money laundering case. He was granted bail in the case on June 20 by a lower court on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. However, the ED moved the Delhi High Court the next day and argued that the lower court’s order granting bail to Kejriwal was unilateral and wrong. Kejriwal was also arrested by the CBI on June 26 in a corruption case related to the alleged excise policy scam.
