New Delhi: America did not like India’s deal with Iran for the operation of Chabahar ( Chabahar) Port. But India calmed his irritation. Even then Foreign Minister Jaishankar told Europe to look at its own hem first. Similarly, be it the Russia-Ukraine war or the Israel-Palestine war, India’s stand on every issue remained very clear.
America’s objection, India does not care
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that Chabahar Port will benefit the entire region and one should not be narrow minded about it. Earlier, America had warned that any country making trade agreements with Iran was at risk of sanctions. Jaishankar said at an event in Kolkata on Tuesday night that in the past even America has accepted that Chabahar Port has wider relevance.
Jaishankar said, “We have had a long relationship with Chabahar Port but we could never sign a long-term agreement. This is because there were many problems. Ultimately we were successful in resolving these and reached a long-term agreement. A long-term agreement is necessary because without it we cannot improve operations at the port. And we believe port operations will benefit the entire region.” “I’ve seen some statements, but I think it’s a question of telling people and making them understand that this really is for everyone’s benefit,” he said. I don’t think people should take a narrow view on this, and they haven’t in the past.
America will not take the risk of imposing sanctions: Expert
International affairs expert Brahma Chellani says that the threat of imposing sanctions has been America’s old policy. America cannot impose sanctions against India in the current situation. He has imposed restrictions many times in the past but it did not benefit him. America can only threaten. When India conducted the first nuclear test, it imposed a ban for 20 years. But the result was that India emerged stronger.
Why is America worried?
America is extremely troubled by the increasing closeness between India and Iran. If we talk behind the scenes, America never wants any country in the world to have any kind of trade relations with Iran. At the same time, America also does not want India to get any benefit from its friendship with Iran.
The reason behind this is that America feels that if this happens, India will move closer to America’s enemy groups. This is the reason why America has imposed several sanctions on Iran one after the other in the last few decades.
Why is Chabahar important for India?
Foreign affairs experts believe that earlier India had to use the Pakistan route to trade with the countries of Central Asia. Even to send goods to Afghanistan, India used the route through Pakistan. But since there has been an agreement between India and Iran regarding Chabahar, now India will get a new route for business from Afghanistan and Central Asia. Till now, to reach these countries one had to go through Pakistan. This port is also important for India from the point of view of diplomacy.
