India serious on fisherman’s death due to Pak jawans firing

New Delhi. India has taken seriously the case of unprovoked firing by the Pakistani Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) on a fishing boat near the International Maritime Boundary Line in the Arabian Sea off Gujarat, in which a fisherman was killed. This incident happened on Saturday. Official sources gave this information on Sunday. He said that apart from the death of an Indian fisherman, another fisherman was injured in the firing on the PMSA side. The injured are being treated at the Okha hospital in Gujarat.

A source said, “We have taken this incident seriously. We are going to raise this issue diplomatically with the Pakistani side. The matter is under investigation.” Devbhoomi Dwarka Superintendent of Police Sunil Joshi said, “PMSA personnel opened fire on the crew members on Saturday evening, killing a fisherman from Thane in Maharashtra who was on board the fishing boat ‘Jalpari’.” ‘
Seven crew members were on board the boat and one of them suffered minor injuries in the firing incident. The body of the deceased fisherman Sridhar Ramesh Chamre (32) was brought to Okha port on Sunday and Porbandar Navi Bandar police is registering an FIR. Joshi said, “Chamre was on board the fishing boat ‘Jalpari’, which had left Okha on October 25 with seven crew members. Of these, five members were from Gujarat and two from Maharashtra.

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) said in a statement, “At present, police officers are investigating the incident and joint interrogation of the crew members is being conducted. The information can be shared only after the facts come to the fore in the investigation.” However, the ICG confirmed that there was firing, in which one person was killed and another was injured.

Meanwhile, after receiving the news of Chamre’s death, a wave of mourning spread in his native village Vadrai in Palghar district of Maharashtra. According to the yacht’s owner, Jayantibhai Rathod, Chamre was in the cabin of the boat when he was shot. When some media persons contacted Rathod, they said that the captain of the boat was also injured in the indiscriminate firing by Pakistan personnel. He said that Chamre’s body could reach his village in a few days.
