Kabul: There is devastation all around due to several earthquake (earthquake) shocks in Afghanistan. There has been a huge increase in the death toll due to the powerful earthquake in western Afghanistan. The death toll from several earthquakes of magnitude 6.3 in Afghanistan’s Herat province has increased to 320 and hundreds are said to be injured. The United Nations has given this information. At the same time, Mohammad Abdullah Jan, spokesperson of Afghanistan’s National Disaster Authority, said that four villages of Jenda Jan district in Herat have suffered the most damage due to earthquake and tremors. He said that dozens of houses have been damaged.
The US Geological Survey reported that there were tremors of 6.3 magnitude. The epicenter of the earthquake was 40 kilometers north-west of Herat city. Later also there was a shock of 5.5 magnitude. A map posted on the survey’s website indicates seven earthquakes in the region. Abdul Samadi, a resident of Herat city, said, ‘People have come out of their homes. Houses, offices and shops are all empty. There is a possibility of more aftershocks. Samadi said, ‘I and my family were inside our house. I felt an earthquake.’ Samdi said his family started making noise and went out and are afraid to go back inside.
Due to telephone lines being down, it is difficult to get accurate details from the affected areas. In the videos surfaced on social media, hundreds of people are seen on the streets outside their homes and offices in Herat city. Herat province borders Iran. According to local media reports, the earthquake was also felt in the nearby Farah and Badghis provinces. Taliban-appointed Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Abdul Ghani Baradar expressed his condolences to those killed and injured in the earthquake in Herat and Badghis.
