The main reason for the chaos in Nigeria is a statement by the new President there, Bola Tinubu. The President says that the government will not give subsidy on petrol to the people. Nigeria is the largest producer of oil in Africa. Tibulu said that the era of subsidy on petrol is gone. The government will use this subsidy for education, healthcare and employment generation.

According to media reports, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, a government company of Nigeria, said that retail prices have been changed. Meanwhile, Tinubu has appealed to the people not to panic. According to Tinubu, to reduce the burden on the state exchequer, his government has ended the subsidy on petrol. Recently, after taking the oath of office, Tinubu had said that the era of huge discounts on petrol and gas is over.
