At the same time, 709 roads including 5 National Highways also remained closed. The rain that started from Tuesday night rained heavily throughout the day on Wednesday. A cloud burst in Kukloh of Pandoh in Mandi and two houses and a school were washed away.
In the last 24 hours, 8 people died in the district. 2 people are still missing. On the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway, debris went into the four-lane tunnel due to excessive water and debris in the Rains Nallah. Along with this, a huge amount of debris has also come on the Hanogi Mata temple. ADM Mandi Dr. Madan Kumar has confirmed the deaths. Among the dead, a house was completely damaged in the debris caused by a heavy landslide in Village Dagail of Village Panchayat Kalhani of Seraj Assembly Constituency and 2 people died on the spot due to being buried in it, in which Gopi Devi daughter Meenu Ram (14) And his maternal grandfather Parma Nand (62) was the victim of the accident and the dead bodies of both were pulled out from the debris by the villagers after a lot of effort. Nok Singh died due to being buried in the cowshed in Seraj area, while one person each died in Gohar sub-division and Sadar tehsil. The administration has provided immediate relief to the affected families.
In Sarachi of Gram Panchayat Kalhani, many houses including the school ground have come under the grip of landslide. Woman Lachhmi Devi (52) wife Tullu Ram got washed away in Arnehad Sanglehad village of Mandi’s Kataula-Kamand. While diverting the drain water to the other side, the woman got swept away in the strong current and died.
A child has died in Shimla’s Mashobra. Five-year-old Harshit Sharma died on the spot after a gate under construction collapsed at Dumaihar in Panchayat Peeran of Mashobra. This incident came to light on Tuesday. Similarly, in Shimla’s Baldeyan, a migrant husband and wife died after being hit by a landslide. There was a landslide on their shed and both were buried under the debris. The police have taken out the dead bodies of both.
Bad condition of roads, significant impact on life
The rain that started from Tuesday night continued till Wednesday evening. Shimla-Rampur National Highway was also disrupted due to rain. Traffic on the Parwanoo-Shimla fourlane was disrupted throughout the day. Landslide happened here on Chakki Mode. Due to the collapse of a pillar of the bridge on the Baddi-Pinjore main road, this road has been closed. Similarly, Mandi Pathankot National Highway also remained closed. Mandi’s ADM Dr. Madan Kumar told that the Mandi-Pathankot National Highway is completely closed due to landslide. All alternative routes going from Mandi to Kullu are blocked. About 350 vehicles are stuck here. Administration is present on the spot, relief camp has been started to give relief to the people. Arrangements have been made for people to eat, drink and stay there. ADM Mandi Dr. Madan Kumar told that 254 roads along with two national highways are closed in Mandi district, 91 water schemes are affected and 1109 transformers of the Electricity Department are closed. Significantly, Orange Alert has been issued in Himachal on Thursday as well.
Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the state government has decided to stop the use of stone crushers in Beas river basin and its tributaries with immediate effect. He said that this decision has been taken in view of the prevailing conditions during rainy season and the alarming change of ecology in Beas and its tributaries in Kullu, Mandi, Kangra and Hamirpur districts including Chakki river in Kangra district. According to this decision, the operation of all stone crushers of both perennial and non-perennial drains has been stopped till further orders. He said that under the Disaster Management Act-2005, this step has been taken to preserve the fragile ecology and environment of the state, to ensure the safety of settlements and infrastructure. However, the issuance for legitimate mining has not been canceled.
