Mumbai (Anil Bedag): RRP Electronics Ltd., a leading semiconductor company backed by Sachin Tendulkar, has been allotted 100 acres of land by the Maharashtra government in Navi Mumbai. The company is going to set up a state-of-the-art fabrication facility with a capacity of 1.25 lakh wafers per month here.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis handed over the Letter of Comfort for relocating this fab from one of the world’s leading semiconductor companies based in Texas (Sherman). He said, “This allocation will make Maharashtra the centre of India’s semiconductor mission roadmap. The government will provide all possible help in infrastructure, policy support and skill development to make this initiative a success.”
Fadnavis further added that this decision will not only lead to rapid expansion of the industry but will also create new employment opportunities, strong supply chain and further strengthen Maharashtra’s leading position in the field of high-tech manufacturing.
Company Chairman Rajendra Chodankar said, “We are grateful for the continued support of the Chief Minister and the Government of Maharashtra. This acquisition is a historic step towards making India self-reliant in the semiconductor sector.”
The announcement comes exactly a year after Maharashtra’s first OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) facility was launched in Navi Mumbai. Now, this new move by RRP will prove to be a strong presence not only for the company but for the entire India in the global semiconductor value chain.
