IPL: Over the 19-year history of the Indian Premier League, the cricketing world has witnessed a succession of magnificent records being set and broken on the field. However, in the 19th season of the IPL, KL Rahul— (KL Rahul’) playing for the Delhi Capitals—has accomplished a feat that is almost impossible to surpass. When the Delhi Capitals took the field on May 8th to play against the Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground during the 2026 IPL season, KL Rahul played a brief innings, scoring just 23 runs off 14 balls. Yet, on the strength of this short innings, he established a record that no other player in the history of this T20 league has managed to achieve thus far.
Rahul Becomes the First Player to Score 1,000 Runs for Three Different Teams
Throughout his IPL career, KL Rahul has played for a total of five different teams, spending the majority of his time with the Punjab Kings, the Lucknow Super Giants, and the Delhi Capitals. While playing for these three franchises, Rahul has scored over 1,000 runs for each of them. When he reached this milestone for the Delhi Capitals during the match against KKR, he became the very first player in the history of the IPL to score 1,000-plus runs while representing three distinct teams. Rahul played a total of 55 matches for the Punjab Kings, amassing 2,548 runs at an average of 56.62.
For the Lucknow Super Giants, Rahul played 38 matches and scored a total of 1,410 runs at an average of 41.47. Meanwhile, playing for the Delhi Capitals, Rahul has appeared in 24 matches to date, scoring 1,007 runs at an average exceeding 50. Meanwhile, Rahul has also become the fastest player to reach the 1,000-run milestone for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, achieving this feat in just 23 innings. Previously, this record was jointly held by Rishabh Pant and JP Duminy, who had completed 1,000 runs in 35 innings.
Rahul Becomes Only the 7th Player in IPL History to Achieve This Feat
During the match against KKR, KL Rahul struck a total of four fours in his innings of 23 runs, thereby successfully completing 500 fours in his IPL career. Rahul is only the 7th player in the history of the IPL to achieve this milestone, and the sixth Indian to do so. Virat Kohli currently tops this list, having hit a total of 813 fours in the IPL so far.
