Faces Potential 3-Year Ban  (3-Year )

IPL: Just ahead of the start of IPL 2026, the Delhi Capitals have suffered a major blow. England’s star batsman, Ben Duckett, has decided to withdraw his name from the IPL. Significantly, he has taken this step to safeguard his international career; however, as a consequence, he may now face a three-year    (3-Year )   ban. The Delhi Capitals had acquired Duckett for ₹2 crore in the auction, and he was expected to play a pivotal role as an opener alongside KL Rahul. Yet, with merely four days remaining until the tournament’s commencement, he made it clear that he would not be participating in this season.

Apology Tendered to the Delhi Team
Addressing his decision, Duckett stated that it was an extremely difficult choice for him and that he wished to apologize to the Delhi team for his inability to join them. When he had initially put his name forward for the auction, he believed it would be a fantastic opportunity. Being selected by a franchise like Delhi was a truly special moment for him. The IPL is the world’s premier league—a stage where the very best players compete—and the experience would undoubtedly have been incredible.

He further remarked that he remains unsure whether he is bidding farewell to the IPL forever without ever having played in it. Given that he is now 31 years old, making a comeback would not be an easy feat. Nevertheless, he remains hopeful that, one day, he will indeed be able to represent the Delhi franchise. He has given this matter considerable thought and feels that, for the sake of his career, this is the right decision to make.

Stepping Away from the League to Focus on the England Team
Essentially, Duckett currently wishes to concentrate on cementing his position within the England national team. To ensure a consistent stream of opportunities in international cricket, he has decided to distance himself from franchise-based cricket for the time being. However, according to IPL regulations, strict disciplinary action can be taken against foreign players who withdraw their names at the eleventh hour. Consequently, Duckett could face a ban prohibiting him from participating in the IPL for up to three years—a development that could prove to be a significant setback for his T20 career. While this decision has impacted the Delhi Capitals’ strategy, it has also made it clear just how difficult it is becoming for players to strike a balance between international cricket and league cricket.
