Chief Secretary Shri Anand Bardhan has directed the Transport Department to give an update on the status of all the proposed rail projects in the state and to give a point-wise report on the obstacles and problems being faced in the currently running rail projects. He has also asked to clarify the status of upgradation of all railway stations including Dehradun. Along with this, the CS has directed for effective coordination with the Ministry of Railways, RVNL and related institutions on issues related to proposed and running rail projects in the state.
The Chief Secretary said that in view of the connection of the inaccessible hilly areas of the state with the rail network, industrial, economic and social development of the state, smooth movement of devotees throughout the year in world famous Dhams, pilgrimages and strategic importance, the infrastructure of railways is of utmost importance for the state.

The Transport Department informed that there are a total of five rail projects in the state, out of which three are proposed and two projects including Rishikesh-Karnprayag are currently being operated. Gangotri Yamunotri Rail Project whose total distance is 121.76 km and there are 10 stations. Its survey work has been completed and DPR has been made available to the Railway Board. Approval is awaited on this. Tanakpur Bageshwar Rail Project whose total distance is 170.70 km and has 12 stations. Its survey work has been completed and DPR has been made available to the Railway Board. Approval is awaited on this. Dehradun -Saharanpur Rail Project whose total distance is 92.60 km and has 8 stations. Its survey work is in progress.
