“I had put everything on the line in that World Cup,” said Rohit Sharma
Recently, during an event, Rohit Sharma spoke openly about the defeat in that final match. Rohit said that everyone was very sad after that loss and we couldn’t believe that we had lost. Personally, it was a very difficult time for me because I had put everything on the line in that World Cup, not just two or three months before, but ever since I took over the captaincy in 2022, I had been thinking about this World Cup.

He further said that after the defeat in Ahmedabad, I honestly felt that I didn’t want to play cricket anymore. I had given my all for that World Cup. When we lost, I felt that there was nothing left in my body and mind. It felt like the game had drained all my energy. After that, I couldn’t feel anything. It took me several months to get over it.

How did Rohit Sharma overcome the grief of that defeat?
Rohit said that I think it’s natural to feel that way when you are so invested in something and don’t get the desired result, and that’s what happened to me after that loss. But I also knew that life doesn’t end there. This was a big lesson for me on how to get out of such situations, how to reset myself and make a fresh start. I knew something else was coming, the 2024 T20 World Cup was on the horizon, and I had to focus all my attention on that. It’s easy to say this now, but at the time, it was very difficult.
