Afghanistan cricketers: Three young cricketers have died in the ongoing military conflict between Pakistan ( Pakistan)    and Afghanistan. The deaths of these three players have shocked the entire world. Three cricketers from an Afghan club were killed in an airstrike by the Pakistani military, further escalating tensions between the two countries. Following this incident, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has refused to play in the T20 series against Pakistan. The BCCI has now come out in support of Afghanistan and called Pakistan’s actions cowardly.

BCCI expresses grief over the deaths of Afghan players

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has issued a lengthy statement on the incident, expressing condolences and calling the Pakistani attack a cowardly act. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia issued a statement strongly condemning the incident. The statement reads, “The BCCI expresses its deepest sorrow and condolences on the death of three young Afghan cricketers—Kabir Agha, Sibghatullah, and Haroon—in the cowardly airstrike in Paktika province.”

The BCCI further stated in its statement that the BCCI stands in solidarity with the Afghanistan Cricket Board, the cricketing community, and the families of the deceased players in this time of profound grief and condemns this horrific and unjustified attack. The loss of innocent lives, especially of talented players, is deeply saddening and concerning.

Afghanistan refuses to play in the tri-series against Pakistan
This T20 series between Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan was also scheduled to be held in Pakistan, but Afghanistan has refused to participate in this series. There were already calls for a ban on the Pakistan cricket team due to tensions with India. Now, the killing of three cricketers in Afghanistan has renewed calls for a ban on Pakistan. It remains to be seen what action the ICC takes against them following this entire incident.

ICC Chairperson Jay Shah wrote in a social media post, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of three Afghan cricketers: Kabir Agha, Sibghatullah, and Haroon, whose dreams were cut short by senseless violence. The loss of such talented players is a blow not only to Afghanistan cricket but to the entire cricketing world. We all stand with the Afghanistan Cricket Board in this time of tragedy.”
