Bengaluru Chinnaswamy Stadium ( Chinnaswamy)

Bengaluru: The IPL 2025 title was won by the RCB team. After this, 11 fans died and many others were injured due to a stampede in the crowd gathered near the stadium to join the celebration of winning the title. Then after this, the state government took a big step and constituted a one-member commission. The report of the commission was recently presented before the state cabinet. The Justice John Michael D’Cunha Commission appointed by the Karnataka government has termed the Chinnaswamy   ( Chinnaswamy)    Stadium as ‘unsuitable and unsafe for the public’, casting a cloud of doubt over some big matches including the Women’s World Cup matches to be held later this year.

The semi-final of the Women’s World Cup 2025 is to be held at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru

The commission said that the design and structure of the stadium is unsuitable and unsafe for a large number of fans. The opening match and semi-final of the ICC Women’s World Cup are scheduled to be held at the Chinnaswamy Stadium later this year. Acceptance of this comment by the state government could have a huge impact on those matches. The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has already decided to hold this year’s Maharaja Trophy T20 tournament, scheduled to be held next month, without fans.

The Commission gave important suggestions
The Commission has also recommended that stadium officials consider shifting tournaments that are expected to draw large crowds to other places. Such events should be held in places that are better suited to large numbers of fans. The Commission has also given some suggestions to avoid such tragic incidents in future. This includes improving entry and exit gates.

Big events can pose risks: Commission
The Commission again admitted that without completing these improvement measures, ‘big events’ can cause more damage. It said that unless structural changes are made, big events here can pose a risk to public safety. The commission also suggested initiating legal proceedings against KSCA president Raghuram Bhat, now-resigned secretary A Shankar and treasurer ES Jayaram, RCB vice-president Rajesh Menon, DNA Entertainment Networks MD T Venkat Vardhan and VP Sunil Mathur.
