Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has made a big announcement for the people of the state on Thursday morning. Nitish has announced that from August 1, 2025, all domestic consumers will be given free electricity up to 125 units. ( 125 units) That is, this decision will come into effect from the bill of the month of July itself. This decision of the Nitish government will directly benefit 1 crore 67 lakh families of Bihar. Along with this, the government has also decided that in the next 3 years, solar power plants will be installed on the roofs of the houses of these families or nearby public places, which will further increase the availability of electricity.
‘1 crore 67 lakh families of the state will benefit’
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar shared the information about this decision on his official X handle and wrote, ‘We have been providing electricity to everyone at affordable rates since the beginning. Now we have decided that from August 1, 2025, i.e. from the bill of July month, all the domestic consumers of the state will not have to pay any money for electricity up to 125 units. This will benefit a total of 1 crore 67 lakh families of the state. We have also decided that in the next three years, by taking consent from all these domestic consumers, benefits will be given by installing solar power plants on the roofs of their houses or at the nearest public place.’
The CM further wrote in his tweet, ‘Under the Kutir Jyoti Yojana, the state government will bear the entire cost of installing solar power plants for the extremely poor families and the government will also provide proper support for the rest. With this, domestic consumers will no longer have to spend up to 125 units of electricity, as well as according to an estimate, up to 10 thousand MW of solar energy will be available in the state in the next three years.’
Nitish government is also focused on solar energy
This decision of the Nitish government will not only give relief in electricity bills, but is also a big step towards making Bihar self-reliant in the field of solar energy. The government aims to generate 10000 MW of solar power in the next 3 years. Under the Kutir Jyoti Yojana, the government will fully bear the cost of installing solar power plants for poor families, while other families will also be given proper assistance in this scheme. This will not only save electricity, but will also benefit the environment.
